Tigers and Brownies split

Sportsman's Park
GAME 1 - 8/18
Newhouser vs Kramer
Tigers 5, Browns 1

All hail Prince Hal Newhouser who gave up just 1 run on 3 hits while going the distance.  The game was knotted at 1 apiece until Maier tripled home a run in the top of the 7th and scored on Mayo's single.  Some timely safeties in the top of the 9th added 3 more runs to give the Tigers a 5 run victory.

GAME 2 - 8/19
Trout vs Potter
Browns 9, Tigers 1

Nels Potter took a page from Prince Hal's notebook and evened up the series by going the distance and giving up just 1 run.  Potter scattered 7 hits in the process.  George McQuinn (3-4, 3 RBI) hit a 3 run shot in the 6th to blow the game wide open.

GAME 3 - 8/20
Benton vs Muncrief
Browns 5, Tigers 0

Bob Muncrief shut the door on the Motown 9 with a tidy 4 hit shutout.  He also added 2 knocks and a RBI.  George McQuinn remained hot with 2 more hits as did shortstop Vern Stephens.

GAME 4 - 8/20
Mueller vs Galehouse
Tigers 2, Browns 1

An RBI single by Swift plated Doc Cramer in the top of the 9th to put the Tigers up 2-1.  Reliever Caster walked 2 of his former teammates to put runners on 1st and 2nd with 1 out.  Stubby Overmire came on to get the final 2 batters to pop out weakly to end the game.
