Bucs and Jints split series @ Forbes Field

GAME 1 - Forbes Field
Giants 3, Pirates 2

The Jints scored 2 runs in the top of the 9th to take a 3-1 lead.  An error by losing pitcher Cookie Cuccurullo prolonged the inning which allowed George Hausmann to single home the winning run.  Cuccurullo almost made up for his gaffe by singling home a run in the bottom of the 9th.  Unfortunately for the losing Bucs on that same play Frank Gustine was gunned out at third to end the game.

GAME 2
Giants 11, Pirates 5

Don't let the final score fool you.  This game was a nail biter that went 12 innings.  The Giants busted through the door and scored 6 unanswered runs in the top of the 12th to put the game away.  The "Schnozz", Ernie Lombardi had 4 RBI plus a round tripper.  Cuccurullo lost his 2nd game in as many days for the Bucs.

GAME 3
Pirates 2, Giants 1

Heading toward the bottom of the 9th the Jints and hurler Voiselle were doing a great job nursing a 1-0 lead.  Back to back two out doubles by Jim Russell and Bob Elliott tied the game.  A game ending single by Babe Dahlgren plated Elliot for the winning tally.

GAME 4
Pirates 4, Giants 3

New York broke Fritz Ostermueller's shutout with 3 huge runs in the top of the 9th to tie the game at 3-3.  For the second day in a row the hometown Bucs relied on 9th inning heroics to pull out another victory.  A 2 out double by Pete Coscarart sent the Forbes Field faithful home with a smile.  New York took the first 2 games of this 4 game set and the Bucs took the final 2.
