FDR throws out the first ball

FDR traveled home to New York to throw out the first pitch for opening day in a contest between the Trolley Dodgers of Kings County and the Redbirds of St. Louie.  Thanks to our beloved president we still have baseball.  While many of the owners thought it wise to shut down the game due to the war, FDR gave baseball the "green light" to keep on going.  With most of our boys overseas our factories were staffed by either those ineligible for the draft and women.  Factories were running around the clock and people needed a distraction from their work and their worries.  Every man woman and child had a friend, son, husband, brother, father or uncle fighting overseas.  Watching or listening to baseball on the radio helps them feel normal again, even if it's just for 2 hours a day.
