Tigers take 3 of 4 from Brownies

September 6.  Hal Newhouser gave up a run in the first.  But the Tigers unloaded on Nels Potter in the bottom of the third for five runs.  That was all Prince Hal needed as he held the Brownies to two more runs and won his third of the season, 5-3

September 7   The Tigers got one in the first and added two more in the third on Hank Greenberg's homerun.  The Browns scrapped back to tally solo runs in the 5th and 7th to make this one a nail biter.  Rudy York homered in the bottom of the 8th to provide Dizzy Trout with a bit of a cushion as he went on to win his fourth game of the season.

September 8  The Browns sought vengeance for their first two losses Jack Kramer kept the Tigers in check throwing a complete game shutout, winning his third of the year, 10-0
in the season, sending nine batters to the plate in the first and scoring 5 runs.  The Browns kept on scoring, adding five more runs through the nine including a two run homer in the ninth by George McQuinn "and McGwire, couldn't take you higher"

September 9  Les Muellar looked shaky in the first, and the Browns looked for a split   A three run
homer by Vern Stephens, his 7th of the season gave St. Louis a three run lead before the Tigers came to bat.  But the Motown Cats came back for two in the bottom of the first and Muellar seemed to settle down.  Roy Cullenbine tripled in the third and Greenberg plated him with a sacrifice fly. In the bottom of the 5th "Little" Eddie Mayo hit his third homer of the season to give the Tigers a one run lead.  The Tigers picked up two more in the sixth, one on a Muellar sacrifice fly and added an insurance run in the 8th on a Dan Ross pinch hit double.  Muellar won his first game of the season and George Caster earned his third save.
