Bombers take 3 of 4 from Nats

Game 1:  This one needed to come with a parental advisory as you would never want you sons to see this mess of a game if they had any aspirations to be a big leaguer.  Nine (9) errors, 20 BBs, 2 WPs, 30 hits and 31 runs; this game had everything.  Several Yankees had career days.  Nick Etten had 4 hits, a HR and 7 RBIs.  Roy Weatherly had 6 hits and scored 5 times.  Joe Gordon booted 2 GBs but had a HR and 5 RBIs.  Bill Dickey scored 4 and drove in 4.  Butch Wensloff was the beneficiary.  He went all 9 allowing 4 runs, 1 earned.  Milo Candini was the loser.  He went 2+ IPs allowing 9 hits and 11 runs.  Yankees 27 Senators 4

Game 2: The Senator hitters had a great start putting up 5 runs by the 3rd inning led by RBI hits by Jake Early and George Case.  The Yankees starter, Hank Borowy settled down after that and did not allow another Senators run.  Meanwhile the Yankees chipped away, scoring 3 in the 4th and 2 in the 6 to get all even.  The key hits were by a 2-run bomb by Etten and an RBI by back-up catcher Rollie Hemsley.  The Yankees went ahead to stay in the 7th with Billy Johnson's Triple the key hit.  The Yankees added 3 unearned runs in the 9th after a costly error by Senators SS Red Roberts.  Yankees 11 Senators 5

Game 3:  The Yankees cruised to a 6-0 lead into the 8th behind 3 hits each by Charlie  Keller and Nick Etten and strong pitching by Spud Chandler.  Keller smacked his 6th HR, a 2-run shot.  The Senators' bats woke up in the bottom of the 8th scoring 2 runs then chasing Chandler in the 9th after Case's Double put runners at 2nd and 3rd with two outs.  Jerry Priddy then greeted reliever Johnny Murphy with a 2-run hit before Murphy nailed down his 2nd Save.  Case and starter Early Wynn had 3 hits each and Priddy 3 RBIs,  Yankees 6 Senators 4

Game 4:  After seeing his fellow starters hit hard, Dutch Leonard shut the Yankees' bats down with a CG masterpiece.  He allowed only 5 singles and the Yankees never came close to scoring.  Gene Moore blasted a 2-run HR (#2) to give Leornard all the runs he needed.  Senators 4 Yankees 0

Nick Etten had 9 hits, 9 RBIs and 2 HRs in the series.  Roy Weatherly went 9-17 and scored 7 runs.
