Ray Scarborough pitched a complete game gem, holding the Tigers to four hits and driving in the game winning run in the 4th. Joe Orrell took the loss for the Tigers. Senators 3 Tigers 0
September 24, First game
The Senators scored first when Hal Newhouser walked in a run in the 3rd. It remained 1-0as Bobo Newsome held the Tigers in check until the 7th. In the seventh, Hank Greenberg led off with a single. Two outs later he was on second. But Newsome lost control of his fastball and walked the next two hitters. Don Ross then delivered a pinch hit two run single to give the Tigers the lead Stan Spence drove home Jerry Priddy in the top of the 8th to tie the game. In the bottom of the 8th, Bob Maier led off with a single. Mickey Haeffner came into relieve and face the left hand hitting Eddie Mayo. Mayo bunted Maier to third and Greenberg drove him home for the game winning run. Newhouser finished out the ninth with no trouble to win his sixth of the season. Tigers 3 Senators 2
September 24, Second Game
All season long the Senators have been plagued by two things, and inability to hit homers (a total of four coming into this game) and an inability to pick up the ball. Four errors contributed to the Nats demise as the Tigers scored 7 runs in the first four innings. Dizzy Trout only got stronger as the game went on and only allowed two baserunners in the last four innings. Dizzy won his 7th. Tigers 7 senators 3
September 25
Dutch Leonard was masterful and the game was a laugher. Eddie Mayo hit his 6th homer of the season in the first. That was the entirety of the Tiger offense. Jake Early got his first homer of the season (and the 5th of the season for the 'Nats) The Senators backed Leonard with 13 runs as they raked Tiger pitching. Leonard won his 6th with no losses. Senators 13 Tigers 1.
