GAME 1
A.Carter vs Lombardi
Dodgers 2, Reds 1 (11 inn)
Good news out of the Borough of Churches...Vic Lombardi once again didn't lose a game. Your eyes aren't deceiving you. What you just read is correct. Brooklyn's troubled lefty pitched 7 strong innings and gave up just 1 unearned run. The bad news is that it took a 2 out pinch hit RBI single by Mickey Owen to get Lombardi off the short side of the record. With the score tied at 1-1 the game headed into extra innings. Neither team scored in the 10th and the Reds failed to push across a run in the top of the 11th despite runners on 1st and 2nd with no one out. That blown opportunity would bite the boys from the Queen City right in the keyster as dem Bums capitalized on their limited opportunity in the bottom of the frame. With one out Luis Olmo walked and promptly stole second. Cincy reliever Malloy spent too much time worrying about Olmo and not enough worrying about the hitter, Augie Galan. In a blink of an eye Galan ran the count to 3-1. Malloy had to challenge him with a fastball and Brooklyn's switch hitting 1st basement lined a game winning single to center.
GAME 2
Walters vs C.Davis
Dodgers 6, Reds 1
Curt Davis upped his record to 6-2 (3.19) with a complete game 1 run effort. Brooklyn broke a 1-1 time with 2 in the bottom of the 4th and never looked back. The slumping Luis Olmo finally broke out in a big way going 4-4 with 3 runs scored. Goody Rosen knocked in 3 while hitting his 3rd homer of the season and stealing his 6th sack.
GAME 3
Heusser vs Herring
Dodgers 8, Reds 4
Art Herring (5-1, 2.08) was solid in 8 innings of work before he handed the ball off to the incendiary Cy Buker (11.12 ERA). Brooklyn easily doubled up the Reds with 3 in the 1st and 3 in the 9th. Luis Olmo continued his hot hitting by going 4 for 5 with 2 runs scored and 1 knocked in. Brat Stanky once again did his job in the leadoff spot going 2 for 4 with a walk and 2 runs scored. He even knocked a run in for good measure as he pushed his season average up to .317. Clyde Sukeforth had another RBI pinch hit single. Dixie Walker and Augie Galan each chipped in a pair of hits.
GAME 4
Shoun vs Branca
Reds 6, Dodgers 3
Teen hurler Ralph Branca (03, 3.25) once again struggle due to control problems (6 walks in 7 innings). Branca throws hard, but he doesn't have command yet. Mr. Rickey forecasts him to be a future 20 game winner and franchise star. Today belonged to the Reds bats (6 runs on 11 hits) and their pen. Tipton, G.Walker, Jo-Jo White and Frank McCormick all had 2 hit days. White and Tipton also added 2 walks to their tour of the basepath saga. Dodger player manager Leo "the Lip" Durocher put himself in to pinch hit for Branca in the home half of the 7th and got his first hit of the season. Dixie Walker had a 3 hit day, but never touched home plate. Brat Stanky scored 2 of Brooklyn's 3 runs as dem Bums came up 1 game short of a series sweep and were now forced to scoreboard watch the Cubs/Pirates series in this key battle for 2nd place.
