Brooks sweep crosstown rival Jints

Ebbets Field
GAME 1
Brewer vs C.Davis
Dodgers 5, Giants 1

Curt Davis bent like the Bulge in the Ardenes, but did not break like the Maginot line as the Jints pounded out 12 hits against him, but netted one measly run.  Inning after inning New York had Davis on the ropes, but couldn't land the knockout punch like Joe Louis.  Brooklyn's lineup, which finally looks to be out of its season long slump gave Davis a 5-0 lead after 7.  Augie Galan (3-4) was a one man wrecking crew dazzling the Flatbush Faithful with 2 RBI's and even a stolen base.  Dan Gardella was 4 for 5 for the Jints, but could not find a mate to drive him home.

GAME 2
Maglie vs Herring
Dodgers 4, Giants 1

Art Herring (4-1, 2.04) continued to be Brooklyn's most reliable hurler with this complete game 1 run effort where he had to overcome 2 errors by his keystone combo of Brown and Stanky.  Goody Rosen was 2 for 4 with 3 RBI.  Dan Gardella's solo blast in the 7th accounted for the Jints lone run.  Brown might have been weak with the leather, but he did make up for it with the bat going 2 for 4 with 2 runs scored in the 2 slot.  The People's "Cherce", Dixie Walker was 2 for 3 with 2 runs scores.  Youngster White Lockman was 3 for 4 for the Jints, but wound up stranded on base each time.

GAME 3
A.Hansen vs Seats
Dodgers 10, Giants 3

Tom Seats (3-1, 1.39) posted another big win and almost gutted it out for the complete game effort.  With his arm strength fading fast he was replaced by Pfund with 2 outs to go and the game not in doubt.  Brooklyn amassed 10 runs on 18 hits off of starter Hansen and reliever Fischer.  The Brat, Eddie Stanky was 4 for 5 atop the order.  Big Ed Stevens was 3-4 with 2 RBI's representing the bottom of the order.  Augie Galan's 3 for 5 boded well for the middle of the lineup.  Joe Medwick hit a 3 run shot in the 6th to account for all of New York's runs.  Luis Olmo hit a 3 runs shot for the Dodgers the prior inning.  Ed Stevens hit one in the 7th.

GAME 4
Voiselle vs Gregg
Dodgers 7, Giants 5

Not a banner day for either starter.  Voiselle (2-5, 4.82) gave up 3 earned runs (5 total) in 5 innings and Hal Gregg threw 147 pitchers in 7 gritty innings.  Gregg (5-1, 2.62) was barely good enough (7IP/4ER) to earn the win.  Clyde King finished out the final 2 to save the game for the Dodgers who pulled off the unexpected series sweep.  Augie Galan (2-4) had 3 runs scored and 3 RBI's.  "Brat" Stanky was again on base constantly (2-3).  Catcher Johnny Peacock was 3 for 4 while batting 8th.  In part time duty his season average is now .366.  Brooklyn moved to .500 for the first time all season.
